Short Biography

Dr. Stephen Klusza is a developmental geneticist who received both his B.S. and PhD degrees in Biological Sciences from Florida State University and completed a postdoctoral research appointment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before moving to Atlanta. Dr. Klusza's research focuses on interrogating gene function in female fertility and development of ovarian follicles in Drosophila fruit flies. In addition to his interest in development of inclusive and low/no-cost accessible quality education workflows, Dr. Klusza is also involved in several efforts to increase diversity among faculty and students as a former chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Genomics Education Partnership, a faculty collective bringing original genomics and bioinformatics research opportunities to undergraduate students. Dr. Klusza's research interests includes: 1) Impact of environment and genetics on organismal health and fertility using Drosophila fruit flies and cell culture 2) Signal transduction and flagellar coordination in Chlamydomonas and Volvox algae 3) Synthetic biology and engineering of genetic circuits in Bacillus subtilis.
