Interests | I am passionate about solving problems, providing software solutions, and enhancing processes. I enjoy designing and developing applications, and implementing extendable and sustainable platforms, which can then be used for rapid developments. I am also interested in digital skills training for librarians, and the promotion of Library Carpentry. Most recently, I have begun to explore ways in which I can contribute to Digital Scholarship. |
Short Biography | I am a Senior Software Developer at the University of Manchester Library. As part of the Digital Development Team, I line manage six software developers. This involves overseeing all aspects of the development of digital services and applications, and facilitating my team to work on their own initiatives to provide solutions to problems, which includes undertaking research into new technologies and methodologies. Having graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, I started my career in Software Engineering in 1998. Since then, I have been working on the full software development lifecycle, primarily using Java technology, and began at the University of Manchester Library in 2007. Here, I have led several development projects, the largest in scale being the design and development of the University of Manchester’s Institutional Repository, and Electronic Thesis Management and Submission system. I became a certified Carpentry instructor in 2018, and introduced Library Carpentry to UoM in the same year. Since then, I have been coordinating Carpentry-related activities at the libraries of UoM and other northern universities. This has involved leading multi-institutional teams, to teach at both national and international levels. |
