Interests

My interests lie in the intersection of community building, bio-computation, and the inclusion of historically underrepresented groups in STEM. In my SSI fellowship project, I want to specifically focus on identifying and developing effective training strategies in the low-income research environment (i.e. limited resources, lack of funding, etc.).

Short Biography

I am a research associate and community manager of the Turing Way project at The Alan Turing Institute in London. The Turing Way is an Open Source community-driven book project that involves and supports a diverse community of researchers, educators, funders and journal editors in ensuring that reproducible and ethical data science is "too easy not to do".

I am also a co-founder of the Open Life Science mentoring and training program that I lead with Yo Yehudi and Bérénice Batut (developed in the Mozilla Open Leadership x cohort): https://openlifesci.org/,

During my SSI fellowship period, my main focuses as a community leader will be the following:

  1. Developing curriculums and central learning resources to enable understanding of Open Science best practices and their application to the community-led projects
  2. Reducing dependencies of learners on training activities conducted by advanced researchers at in-personal events or other commercial training courses
  3. Contributing to the enhancement of community engagement and sustainability of smaller bioinformatics communities
