My work spans spatial statistics, epidemiology, and geographic
information systems research. I implement and apply statistical
methods to real-world disease problems, particularly in developing
countries. In 2012 our small team ran a weekly prediction model for
meningitis outbreaks in Africa working with the WHO and partners in
the countries. For next year we hope to have a web-based prediction
dashboard system where stakeholders can get outbreak prediction data
and browse historical events.
An essential part of my research is the production of quality
software. Code that I've written has been released as open-source
packages for the R statistics system and plugins for the QGIS Desktop
GIS program. I always insist that grant applications specify that
software products produced are to be released under an open-source
license. |
