Short Biography | Melissa is an experienced technology & society researcher trained in community engagement and evidence-based teaching. She is currently the infrastructure and impact measurement coordinator at MetaDocencia and was a NASA TOPS OpenCore Subject Matter Expert (SME) on its Open Science Tools and Resources module. She has 10 years of experience as a researcher on the production of software, the Internet, technology, and society in Brazil and Latin America, and was an open journal editor for 8 years. Prior to working at MetaDocencia, Melissa was a diversity, equity, and inclusion community engineer with the Common Workflow Language project and has been focusing her career on making open science more accessible to marginalized communities. She was an Outreachy intern in 2021 working with EDAM, an ontology of bioscientific data analysis and management, and is currently an Outreachy co-mentor with the Open Science Community Saudi Arabia (OSCSA). In 2022, Melissa was the organization administrator for the Open Bioinformatics Foundation at the Google Summer of Code mentorship program. Melissa currently volunteers as a co-lead at the Turing Way (TTW) Portuguese translation team. She is a certified Carpentries instructor and recently completed the CSCCE Scientific Community Engagement Fundamentals course and the OLS Ally Skills training. |
